*A/N: This is four-part request from ravusWolf for a Batman male!reader. Yes, this is a relationship/pairing/whatever with Natasha Romanov. Yes, this is based in the Age of Ultron movie timeline, with my own little spin. No, I don't own anything related to Marvel. I looked up all the movie lines and such at transcripts.wikia.com/wiki/Ave….
All parts/pieces that are not mine, and hopefully you can tell because I'm not going to be highlighting everything and anything that's mine, belong to the respective owners.
Without further ado, enjoy.

*A/N/N: Shout out to my beta reader, InfamousJake27!
Now, enjoy.

It was just another day of kicking Hydra ass and taking names for the Avengers.

"Language!" Captain America shouted into the comm. "Jarvis, what's the view from upstairs?"

The other Avengers listened in, while they fought off foot soldiers, as Jarvis said,

"The central building is protected by some kind of energy shield. Strucker's technology is well beyond any other Hydra base we've taken."

Thor swung his hammer and punched out soldiers as he said,

"Loki's scepter must be here. Strucker couldn't mount this defense without it. At long last."

Natasha took out soldiers on her own. "At long last is lasting a little long, boys." She rushed off to join Clint in the fight.

"Yeah. I think we lost the element of surprise." Clint said as he fired off an arrow and then another.

"Wait a second." Tony cut into the mission conversation. "No one else is going to deal with the fact that Cap just said 'language?'"

Steve internally groaned as he said,

"I know." And being the bad butt that he is, Steve threw his bike into an enemy vehicle. "It just slipped out."

A grown (y/n) Stark watched his younger self walk out of the theatres with his good friends- Lily and Donald. The trio had met at boarding school, while Donny was a freshman and (y/n) was a sophomore. Not long after meeting, (y/n) met Lily and the three of them became quick friends.

(y/n) and Donny had just graduated; Donny had taken extra classes to graduate early. The newly graduated gentlemen had decided to stick around and spend their last summer before college in the city they had grown to love. Donny want to stay with Lily, childhood friends and high school sweethearts.

They laughed at the horrible graphics and the even funnier lines as they headed to the subway. To save some time, they cut through the alley, but they didn't see the man hiding in the shadows of the dumpster.

"Stop!" The man said and the trio turned around. "Give me your money!"

Their eyes were trained on the gun. It was pointed at Lily.

"Now!" The man shouted and took off the safety. Donny pushed Lily towards (y/n), who caught her, but the man panicked and pulled the trigger.

    Donny staggered before falling.

Lily screamed. She drove for Donny, while (y/n) tried to tackle the man. Another shot was fired and Lily fell beside Donny.

(y/n) struggled with the man, but he tripped and fell against the alley wall. The man forced (y/n) into the wall, making him hit his head. (y/n) fell unconscious.

Heading back to New York in the jet, the Avengers were having their post-raid moment. Natasha slowly made her way over to Dr. Bruce Banner after checking on Clint. She was worried about him, and she was worried about (y/n). She just wanted to get back to the Tower as soon as possible.

'One thing at a time.' Natasha reminded herself.

"Hey," She carefully called to Bruce. "The lullaby worked better than ever."

Bruce removed his headphones. "Just wasn't expecting the Code Green."

"If you hadn't been there, there would've been double the casualties. My best friend would've been a treasured memory." She said honestly.

"You know, sometimes exactly what I want to hear isn't exactly what I want to hear."

"How long before you trust me?"

    "It's not you I don't trust."

    'Change the subject.' She thought.

    "Thor, report on the Hulk?"

"The gates of Hel are filled with the screams of his victims." Thor cheered, but he stopped when Natasha glared at him and Bruce groaned in misery. "Uh, but, not the screams of the dead, of course. No no, uh...wounded screams, mainly whimpering, a great deal of complaining and tales of sprained deltoids and, and uh... and gout."

"Hey Banner, Dr. Cho's on her way in from Seoul, is it okay if she sets up in your lab?"

Natasha mentally thanked Tony for his much needed interruption.

The young (y/n) Stark looked up to see medical personnel tending to his wounds. He mumbled to them over and over, but they kept telling him to not talk and to stay calm.

"Where's Lily? What happened to Donny?"

"Sir, please. You need to lay back."

"Where are my friends?" (y/n) asked urgently. "Please tell me."

"You need to relax, sir." The person said. "We're almost there."

(y/n) spent a couple of days in the hospital. One for a concussion and one for hysteria when he found out that Lily and Donald had died the night of the shooting, the day the police came and asked for his statement. (y/n) blamed himself; the doctor said that was a natural thing to think. He wanted to laugh at the man for saying that. Natural.

'Was it natural that the one night they decided to take a shortcut home, like all the other times they'd done so, just for two bright and loving people to die?' (y/n) asked himself, while he listened to the doctor.

"Do you have any family we can call? Anyone you would like to come pick you up?" the doctor asked.

"No phone calls." (y/n) said softly.

    "I strongly sug-"

"I said, no. I would like to be discharged now. Please."

The doctor hesitated for a moment before nodding and asking the nurse to set up the paper work. Since (y/n) was an adult, they couldn’t keep him there. And since he wasn't under any psych evaluations, he could leave out of his own free will.

Later that day, (y/n) made it back to his small temporary apartment that he shared with Donny. He looked around the quiet, dismal place and wanted to cry. He didn't think it was fair. He thought it was completely unfair.

Donny and Lily both had bright futures ahead of them. Donald had just graduated and Lily only had a year left. Donny said he was going to become a teacher and marry Lily once she became a biomedical engineer. Lily knew that she wanted to marry Donny, but she wanted to wait until he became a teacher. They were ready.

'So why did life have to be taken too soon from you guys?' (y/n) thought bitterly.

(y/n) didn't have the energy to trash the place or do anything to drastic. He was sure that Donny's family would be by to collect his things. (y/n) had met them several times, including Lily's family, but he wasn't looking forward to seeing them again under these circumstances. He was giving himself a headache just thinking about it, but realized the headache was because he was crying. He hadn't even noticed until he fell into his bed and hiccupped, falling asleep. The next morning, as he predicted, Donald's family came by and collected his things.

(y/n) knew they didn't blame him, but he couldn't stay in that apartment. He asked if he could keep one of Donny's sketchbooks. He guy had hundreds of them, always doodling and sketching out one thing and then another. The family agreed and left (y/n) with Donny's most recently finished book. He couldn't look at it now, but promised himself that he would do so later.

Donny's family had taken almost everything, except for the one book and some clothes. (y/n) packed everything away in a box, not everything was Donny's, but also Lily's like her sweater. (y/n) placed it by his bed and went to sleep staring at it.

A few days later was the funeral. (y/n) stood in the very back as he watched the two families morn their loss. Lily and Donny were buried next to each other. Donny made no effort to hide the fact that he would one day marry Lily. Now, they laid next to each other. (y/n) hoped that they would be married in the afterlife. Though he didn't believe in it, Donny did and (y/n) hoped the guy was right. He set down the flowers that he brought and left.

(y/n) settled his affairs and then moved back to the states, taking Donny's sketchbook and Lily's sweater with him.

"You sure he's going to be okay?" Natasha asked as Dr. Helen Cho tended to Clint and worked on the machine. "Pretending to need this guy really brings the team together."

Dr. Cho smiled. "There's no possibility of deterioration. The nano-molecular functionality is instantaneous. His cells don't know they're bonding with simulacrum."

"She's creating tissue." Dr. Banner supplied.

"If you brought him to my lab, the regeneration Cradle could do this in twenty minutes." Dr. Cho said proudly.

Tony walked in saying, "Oh, he's flatlining. Call it. Time?"

"No, no, no." Clint said from where he was laying. "I'm going to live forever. I'm gonna be made of plastic." He takes the strange green drink Tony hands to him.

    "Here's your beverage."

"You'll be made of you, Mr. Barton. Your own girlfriend won't be able to tell the difference." Dr. Cho laughed softly.

Clint took a sip of the green slush. "Well, I don't have a girlfriend."

"That I can't fix." Dr. Cho said before turning to Tony. "This is the next thing, Tony. Your clunky metal suits are going to be left in the dust."

"Well, that is exactly the plan. And Helen, I expect to see you at the party on Saturday."

"Unlike you, I don't have a lot of time for parties." She stops for a moment, hesitates to decline Tony's invitation. "Will Thor be there?"

Natasha took that as her cue to leave. She knew Clint was in capable hands and he wasn't going to die from his injury or infection; she made her way to (y/n)'s room. Knocking softly, she opened the door to find (y/n) Stark, New York's own Batman, sitting at the edge of his bed. Natasha watched his posture- shoulders slowly rising and falling, head slight hunched over, and hands gripping the edge of the bed. She stares at his sweaty back before walking up to him and standing in front of him, glancing at the discarded shirt on the ground.

    "(y/n)?" She said softly.

"It was only a dream." He mumbled

"Was it only a dream or was it the dream?"

    "Does it matter?"

"No," Natasha brushed back some of his hair, seeing him relax a little. "What matters to me is that you're okay."

(y/n) smiled, putting the Stark charm into it. "I'm fine, Natasha."

    "Nice try."

"Nothing gets passed you." He stood and headed to the bathroom. "How was your mission? Did you get the scepter?"

"How did you know about that?" Natasha crossed her arms and fixed a hard stare on him.

"I'm Batman." He said jokingly, but knowing it held weight for the both of them.

(y/n) washed up at the sink and ran water threw his unruly bed head. Natasha came up behind him and whispered,

"You shouldn't say such things out loud. Someone might actually believe you."

She hopped onto the counter as (y/n) splashed water on his face. He wiped it off and looked over at her. "It is true, to an extent."

    "I'm being serious, (y/n)."

"You're always serious with me." (y/n) laughed. "I don't want to be serious for a few hours. I want to party."

"So you still want to go to your dad's celebratory party?"

"Absolutely." He said as he threw open his closet.
